You soon wake up in a detention center's medical unit, unsure how you got there. However you create yourself, the game opens up on a flight to Jericho City, when something goes horribly wrong. However, unlike Warren, your character will never speak aloud when you select various dialogue choices. You can also set a personal background history for your character, which seems to change some minor dialogue in some quests.

It's not especially in-depth, but you can create a man or woman with a handful of skin tones, hairstyles, and other characteristics for your upcoming trip to Jericho City. I wouldn't worry too much about focusing on one weapon proficiency unless you find a weapon type that you really like.Unlike in its predecessor, which put players in the role of pre-set protagonist Warren, The Surge 2 opens up with a character creator. Those are the main weapons that I used through the first half of the Game. MG Negotiator is a good early staff that you can get near the beginning of the second area (central production).įire Throttle is a twin rigged that the second boss drops that is good. The pax is a very nice single rigged weapon that you get off the first boss. The vibro blade that you found isn't half bad. More along the lines of an ultra great sword in dark souls. Single rigged and super heavy weapons are much slower but harder hitting. Single handed are more middle of the road. I have primarily been focusing on twin rigged (mentioned above, very fast) and staffs which have medium attack attack speed and impact and good range. That being said I'd recommend playing around with all the different weapon types you find to see what you like for your play style. Weapons are categorized by type and the more you use a certain type the higher your proficiency becomes in that weapon for type.

From what I've noticed, elemental damage is very effective against robots. If you look at the detailed page of armors you can see resistances against these same damage types.

Also unclear what exactly it does, but every weapon has different damage types (look at the Detailed Page in your inventory). Early on in the game when you proficiency is still low (<10?) low-medium proficiency weapons will usually still outdamage high proficiency weapons. You should be able to check the damage stat any time in your inventory. Weapons with higher proficiency scaling usually have lower base damage so it will be a while before they outdamage high base damage weapons. I don't have the exact formula, but it doesn't matter _as_ much as in Dark Souls. Looking cool and feeling good is nice in a single player game. There are many different factors why you would pick a weapon over another. Again, a fire staff is available in Central Production B. Try to find one in the area where you first encounter the poison on the floor (in the first area). Can do many small hits but also big hits depending on the buttons/combo. Staff: Lots of range, but not really my style. If you can increase your Impact stat, these things can become mean. You can also get a fire version in Central Production B (Strigil). You cannot miss the guy because he's guarding a key objective. You can get your first one in the Power Plant (Abandoned Production, 1st area). Twin-Rigged: fast but low impact, relies on many hits, combos or hit and run. In Central Production B you can get a fire one-handed sword if you like the look of it. This weapon is great for the first few areas.

The red chainsaw has the full moveset of the one-handed weapons, which allows you to do a slam and spin attacks (try out combinations of VVHH, HVVV etc). One-Handed: the starting piston is one, but its moveset is basic.

Another fast option is the Staff, but you should play around with it a bit to see if you like it. If you like to dodge a lot I can recommend fast weapons (so you don't get stuck too often in your swing animation) like Twin-Rigged or One-Handed. Why did you like the 1h sword in Dark Souls? In the surge you can block normal attacks with any weapon with 100% effectiveness (though stamina consumption may differ per weapon). In this game there's no "shield" as you know it in dark souls.
